DoxyPEP — doxycycline within 72 hours of condomless sex — is not part of Poland's official guidelines, but doxycycline is a common generic antibiotic available on prescription. A vetted private doctor can prescribe it.
What DoxyPEP Does
200mg doxycycline within 72 hours of condomless sex reduces chlamydia and syphilis risk by approximately 70–80%. Less effective against gonorrhoea. No HIV prevention effect.
See the DoxyPEP General Guide for the full evidence base.
Access in Poland
Via a vetted private doctor: An infectiologist (zakaźnik) or sexual health-experienced private doctor who prescribes PrEP will understand DoxyPEP. Ask them directly. Lambda Warszawa's referral list is the best starting point for finding such a doctor.
Via LuxMed or Medicover infectiologist: The infectiologists at these private clinic chains are professionally trained and aware of international sexual health evidence. Raise it at your PrEP monitoring appointment.
Cost: Doxycycline is a generic antibiotic, widely available in Polish pharmacies. Cost: approximately 20–50 PLN for a pack sufficient for multiple DoxyPEP doses. You pay for the private consultation (~200–350 PLN) separately.
What to Say
"Interesuje mnie doksycyklina jako profilaktyka poekspozycyjna przeciwko bakteryjnym chorobom wenerycznym. Czy może Pan/Pani wypisać receptę?" (I'm interested in doxycycline as post-exposure prophylaxis against bacterial sexually transmitted diseases. Can you write a prescription?)
Context
Poland has rising STI rates among gay and bisexual men, particularly chlamydia and gonorrhoea. DoxyPEP reduces chlamydia and syphilis risk specifically. Continue quarterly PKD testing regardless. And keep taking PrEP — DoxyPEP has no HIV effect.
