The Short Version

Dom Svetla Slovensko ("House of Light") is the main LGBTQ+-affirming sexual health organisation in Slovakia. It runs a walk-in Checkpoint testing service in Bratislava that is free, anonymous, and specifically oriented toward gay and bisexual men. No ID required, no referral, no judgment. For a complete bacterial swab panel, supplement with a private lab or the hospital clinic — the Checkpoint covers rapid blood tests but not swabs.

The Three-Site Testing Gap

Dom Svetla Checkpoint uses rapid fingerprick tests — excellent for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis. What they do not provide is bacterial swab testing, which is essential for gay and bisexual men.

A complete STI screen requires:

  • Výter z hrdla — throat swab (gonorrhoea and chlamydia in the throat)
  • Rektálny výter — rectal swab (gonorrhoea and chlamydia in the rectum)
  • Uretrálny výter — urethral swab (gonorrhoea and chlamydia in the urethra)

Throat and rectal gonorrhoea and chlamydia are almost always asymptomatic. If you only test blood, you will miss the most common bacterial infections.

For bacterial swab testing:

  • Kramáre Hospital Infekčná klinika (Limbová 5, Bratislava) — free with Slovak public insurance (VšZP/Dôvera/Union) and referral from GP; less anonymous than Dom Svetla
  • Private labs — Unilabs (Šancová 12, Bratislava), Medirex, Alpha Medical — no referral needed; roughly €50–100 for a full STI panel including swabs; results in 24–48 hours

Dom Svetla staff can advise on which option is right for your situation.
