What Is DoxyPEP
DoxyPEP (doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis) is a single 200 mg dose of doxycycline taken within 72 hours after condomless sex. Clinical trial data shows it reduces chlamydia and syphilis risk by approximately 70–80%, and gonorrhoea risk by around 50%. It does not protect against HIV.
Current Status in Slovakia
There is no national Slovak DoxyPEP protocol as of early 2026. It is not automatically offered with PrEP at Kramáre or VÚSCH. However:
- Doxycycline is a standard, widely available antibiotic on prescription
- Some infektológovia at Kramáre are aware of the international trial data and will discuss it with informed patients
- Dom Svetla staff follow European developments and can help you raise the conversation with your prescriber
How to Access It
Option 1 — Raise it at your PrEP follow-up
At your regular infektológ appointment, describe the DoxyPEP protocol and ask whether it is appropriate for you. Use the description: "vziať 200 mg doxycyklínu do 72 hodín po nechránenom styku" (take 200 mg doxycycline within 72 hours of unprotected sex). Not all doctors will engage with this, but those at Kramáre's infectious disease clinic with experience in gay and bisexual men's health are increasingly familiar with the concept.
Option 2 — Ask Dom Svetla for support
Dom Svetla staff (+421 2 2102 8048) can identify doctors who are most receptive and brief you on how to approach the conversation.
Option 3 — Private prescription
Any private GP or infektológ can prescribe doxycycline on a standard eRecept. Consultation roughly €30–50; medication is cheap.

What DoxyPEP Does and Does Not Do
Reduces risk of:
- Syphilis: ~80%
- Chlamydia: ~80%
- Gonorrhoea: ~50%
Does not:
- Protect against HIV (PrEP does this)
- Replace three-site swab testing every 3 months
- Work after 72 hours
