What Is DoxyPEP

DoxyPEP (doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis) is a single 200 mg dose of doxycycline taken within 72 hours after condomless sex. Clinical trials show it reduces chlamydia and syphilis risk by approximately 70–80%, and gonorrhoea risk by around 50%. It does not protect against HIV — PrEP does that.

Current Status in Slovenia

There is no national Slovenian DoxyPEP protocol as of early 2026. It is not automatically offered alongside PrEP at UKC Ljubljana. However:

The infectious disease team at UKC Ljubljana is aware of the international evidence

How to Access It

Raise it at your PrEP follow-up

At your three-monthly appointment at UKC Ljubljana's Infekcijska klinika, ask your doctor about doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis. Use the description: "vzeti 200 mg doksiciklina v 72 urah po nezaščitenem spolnem stiku" (take 200 mg doxycycline within 72 hours of unprotected sex). Ask whether this is appropriate for your situation.

Private prescription

A private GP or specialist willing to prescribe can issue a standard prescription for doxycycline. The medication itself is inexpensive:
