Vaccine access in Poland for gay and bisexual men is generally a private-pay system. Mpox has had patchy availability. HPV is free for children but very expensive for adults. Hepatitis vaccines require payment.

Mpox

Mpox vaccination has been theoretically available in Poland for high-risk groups, but access has been inconsistent. During the 2022 Mpox outbreak, vaccination was offered through infectious disease hospitals and some specialist outpatient clinics with variable availability.

What to do: Contact Lambda Warszawa (lambdawarszawa.org) or KPH (kph.org.pl) for the most current information on Mpox vaccination access in your city — they track availability better than official channels.

Also check your nearest szpital zakaźny (infectious disease hospital) directly — they are the most likely access point for any state-coordinated Mpox vaccination campaign.

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A vaccination is not covered by NFZ for healthy adults and is paid privately.

  • Cost: approximately 180–250 PLN per dose (2 doses for full protection)
  • Available at private clinics or your private doctor on prywatna recepta
  • Combined Hep A+B (Twinrix): approximately 200–300 PLN per dose (3 doses)

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B vaccination is mandatory in Poland's childhood immunisation schedule (since 1992). If you went through Polish schooling, you're likely covered.

If not vaccinated:

  • Check immunity with an anti-HBs blood test (approximately 30–60 PLN at Diagnostyka/Alab)
  • Adult vaccination: private prescription, approximately 80–120 PLN per dose (3 doses), available at private clinics
  • Some NFZ coverage may apply — ask your lekarz pierwszego kontaktu (primary care doctor)

HPV

HPV vaccination was extended to all 12–13-year-old boys and girls in Poland's national programme from 2023. Adults are not covered by NFZ.

For adults:

  • Gardasil 9 on prywatna recepta (private prescription)
  • Cost: approximately 500–600 PLN per dose × 3 doses = roughly 1,500–1,800 PLN total
  • Available at private clinics; some pharmacies stock it directly with a prescription

HPV causes anal cancer, which gay and bisexual men face at significantly elevated risk. The cost is high but the protection is real and lifelong.

Cheaper option: HPV vaccination is significantly cheaper in neighbouring countries (e.g., Czechia, Germany, Netherlands). If you're travelling to any of these, it may be worth planning vaccination there.
