Overview
Slovakia's vaccination provision for gay and bisexual men is limited compared to western European countries. Mpox vaccine availability has been patchy. Hepatitis A and B are not reliably provided free through the public system for gay and bisexual men as a risk group. HPV is expensive for adults. Dom Svetla is the best source of current information on what is available.
Mpox (Monkeypox)
Cost: Free for risk groups when available; availability inconsistent Route: Kramáre Hospital Infekčná klinika / Dom Svetla for current information
Slovakia received Mpox vaccine allocations during the 2022 outbreak for priority groups including gay and bisexual men. However, availability has been inconsistent and not as well-organised as in western European countries.
Before making any appointment, contact Dom Svetla (+421 2 2102 8048 / domsvetlaslovensko.sk) to find out the current status of Mpox vaccination in Slovakia and the current access route. Dom Svetla has the most reliable up-to-date information.
Kramáre Hospital's Infekčná klinika (Limbová 5) is the primary clinical site for Mpox vaccination when available.
Hepatitis A
Cost: Usually privately paid (~€40–70 per dose) Route: Private clinic or GP with vaccine service
Hepatitis A is transmitted sexually (oral-anal contact) and through contaminated food/water. Slovakia does not reliably provide Hep A vaccination free for gay and bisexual men as a risk group. In practice, most access it privately.
Two doses required, 6–12 months apart.
Private vaccination clinics in Bratislava (CIK — Centrum imunológie a klinickej imunológie, travel vaccine centres, or private GP practices) provide Hep A. Check current prices when booking.
Hepatitis B
Cost: May be available via public system for risk groups; check with GP; ~€30–50 per dose privately Route: Obvodný lekár (GP) or private clinic
Ask your obvodný lekár about Hep B vaccination for risk groups — some GPs will arrange this through the public system. Three doses over 6 months; accelerated schedule available.
If not available publicly, private clinics offer Hep B vaccination.
Combined Hep A+B vaccine (Twinrix) covers both.
HPV
Cost: Free in national programme for 12-year-olds; adults pay privately — ~€130–160 per dose Route: Private clinic
Slovakia's national HPV programme is school-based. Most adult gay and bisexual men are outside it and must pay privately.
Private cost: approximately €130–160 per dose; three doses required (0, 2, 6 months), giving a total of roughly €390–480.
Where to access: private vaccination clinics in Bratislava and Košice. Gardasil 9 (covering 9 HPV types) is the recommended formulation.
