Chemsex exists within Warsaw's and Kraków's gay scenes. Poland's social conservatism around both homosexuality and drug use means that gay-specific chemsex support resources are limited — Lambda Warszawa is the most relevant first contact.
The Drug Landscape
GHB / GBL (G) — Present in Polish gay party culture. Dangerous due to narrow margin between recreational and overdose doses.
Crystal meth (kryształki, lód) — Present in some Warsaw and Kraków gay scenes.
Amphetamines / speed — More broadly present in Polish nightlife.
Cocaine — Present in nightlife and some sexual contexts.
Poland has strict drug laws with criminal penalties for personal possession. Seeking emergency medical help for an overdose will not result in prosecution — call emergency services.
GHB Emergency
If someone is unresponsive after taking G:
Call 112 or 999 (ambulance) immediately.
Recovery position — on their side. Stay with them. Tell operators what was taken.
Support Resources
Lambda Warszawa lambdawarszawa.org Lambda is the most appropriate first contact for a gay or bisexual man in Poland dealing with substance use in a sexual context. They won't judge you, understand the intersection of LGBTQ+ identity and drug use in Poland's specific context, and can refer to appropriate support.
Monar monar.pl — Poland's main drug harm reduction organisation. Not LGBTQ+-specific, but has a long track record in harm reduction and addiction treatment. More accessible than the public healthcare system for substance use support.
Private psychiatrist / psychologist: For longer-term support around chemsex, an affirming private therapist (see Doctor Vetting and Lambda's referral list) can be more effective than the public system.
Harm Reduction
Never use G alone. Always have a sober companion.
Don't mix G with alcohol. Small amounts dramatically increase overdose risk.
PrEP during chemsex: If you're on PrEP, don't skip doses. Chemsex creates ideal HIV transmission conditions. If you're not on PrEP, see PrEP Access in Poland.
Post-session testing: Lambda Warszawa PKD for HIV/syphilis. Diagnostyka or Alab for a three-swab panel after chemsex sessions. Don't wait for symptoms.
