For the full clinical detail on each vaccine — what it covers and the evidence — see The Vaccine Checklist. This article covers Czechia-specific access.

Mpox (Monkeypox)

  • Eligibility: Free for gay and bisexual men at elevated risk — those on PrEP, with multiple partners, or in chemsex contexts.
  • Vaccine: Imvanex (MVA-BN). Two-dose primary course, four weeks apart.
  • Where: HIV Centres — primarily HIV Centrum at Bulovka Hospital and ÚVN in Prague. ČSAP / Dům Světla can advise on current availability and coordinate access. ČSAP community services in Brno and Ostrava may also have access.
  • 2026 context: Continued mpox vaccination campaigns following renewed European circulation in 2025–2026. If you haven't completed a primary course, this is a priority. Ask at Dům Světla or your HIV Centrum.
  • Booking: Via your HIV Centrum appointment or through Dům Světla. Check aids-pomoc.cz for current availability.

Hepatitis A & B

  • Status: For gay and bisexual men at risk, hepatitis vaccination may be covered by insurance when recommended by an HIV Centrum or dermatovenerology specialist. Coverage depends on your pojišťovna — check with your insurer or ask at the HIV Centrum.
  • Vaccine: Twinrix (combined Hep A + B). Three doses at 0, 1, and 6 months.
  • Where: HIV Centrum at Bulovka, ÚVN, or through your GP (who can request insurance authorisation).
  • If not covered: Cost at a private GP or travel clinic is approximately 1,200–1,800 CZK per dose × 3 doses. Check ČSAP for any subsidised vaccination events.
  • Existing immunity check: A blood test before starting confirms whether you already have immunity from prior infection or vaccination.

HPV (Human Papillomavirus)

  • Free for: Children through the national vaccination programme. Czech HPV vaccination currently covers girls and boys at age 13 through the school programme.
  • HIV-positive adults: HPV vaccination is recommended regardless of age — discuss with your HIV specialist at Bulovka or ÚVN.
  • Over 18, HIV-negative, paying privately: Gardasil 9 is available. Cost approximately 3,500–5,000 CZK per dose × 3 doses = ~10,500–15,000 CZK total (€420–600). Available at private GPs, vaccination centres, and travel clinics. Expensive — plan accordingly.
  • Younger adults: If you're under 26 and missed the school programme, check with your pojišťovna — some insurers cover catch-up vaccination.

Practical Notes

  • Dům Světla and HIV Centrer as vaccination co-ordinators: For mpox and hepatitis, Dům Světla (aids-pomoc.cz) is the most reliable current source on what's available and how to access it. HIV Centrum appointments are the primary clinical vaccination route.
  • Insurance coverage for preventive vaccines: Czech health insurance covers preventive care including some vaccines, but coverage for adult hepatitis and HPV for gay men specifically depends on how the indication is coded. Always ask before assuming coverage.
