If you test positive for syphilis, gonorrhea, or chlamydia, your treatment pathway usually shifts from the NGO testing site to the formal medical system.
🏥 The Treatment Pathway
NGOs provide testing but generally do not dispense antibiotics for STIs directly. If you receive a positive result (or a reactive rapid test for syphilis):
- Referral: The NGO or testing site will refer you to a doctor. This is typically a specialist at a state dermatovenerological dispensary (шкірно-венерологічний диспансер).
- Confirmation: The state clinic will run a confirmatory laboratory test if your initial result was from a rapid test.
- Prescription: A dermatovenerologist will prescribe the necessary antibiotics (pills or injections).
Cost
While the consultation at a state clinic is free for citizens and registered residents, you will likely need to purchase the antibiotics yourself at a private pharmacy. Costs are generally low, but you must pay out of pocket.
🤫 Partner Notification
There is no formal, compulsory digital contact tracing system in Ukraine that automatically notifies your recent sexual partners. Partner notification relies on your own initiative. Your doctor will strongly advise you to inform recent partners so they can get tested and treated, but they will not do this on your behalf.
If you are uncomfortable navigating the state dispensary system, private clinics offer full STI treatment. This provides more privacy and often a more modern patient experience, but you will pay for both the consultation and the medication.
