The Netherlands has well-developed chemsex harm reduction infrastructure — a product of Amsterdam's position as a major party destination and the Dutch tradition of pragmatic drug policy. Personal possession of small amounts is formally illegal but de facto tolerated, which means you can engage with health services and support organisations without fear.
For drug mechanics, overdose protocols, and harm reduction principles, see Chemsex: The Clinical Guide.
🚨 GHB Emergency
GHB overdose is the most common chemsex emergency in Amsterdam. Call 112 immediately if someone is unresponsive or cannot be woken. Recovery position. Stay with them. Tell the operator what was taken. Amsterdam's emergency services are experienced with GHB overdoses — this is not an unusual call.

💊 PrEP and Testing
If you're on PrEP, don't skip doses — chemsex creates exactly the conditions for HIV transmission. Test quarterly minimum: throat, anal, and urethral swabs plus blood, at the GGD Soa Poli or via your huisarts.
See PrEP Access in the Netherlands if you're not yet on PrEP.
