A positive result for chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis in Lithuania requires treatment through an infectious disease specialist (infektologas) or a dermatovenereologist.

The Treatment Pathway

If you tested at Demetra or a community event, they will refer you to a clinic (usually Santaros Klinikos or Kauno Klinikos) for confirmatory testing and treatment, as community NGOs cannot prescribe antibiotics directly.

If you tested at a private lab (like Antėja), you must take your positive results to a doctor for treatment. You can go to:

  • A public clinic (with a GP referral, covered by insurance)
  • A private venereologist (no referral needed, out-of-pocket cost)

Gonorrhea & Chlamydia

Treatment is usually a course of antibiotics (pills or an injection for gonorrhea). You can obtain these from a pharmacy with the prescription provided by your doctor.

Syphilis

Syphilis treatment requires intramuscular penicillin injections. These are administered at the clinic.

Costs

If you have Lithuanian health insurance (PSD), treatment at public clinics is free. Medication for chlamydia and gonorrhea may incur a small pharmacy fee, while syphilis treatment is typically administered on-site. Private clinic consultations cost around €40–€80, plus the cost of medication.

Partner Notification

Lithuania does not currently have a centralized, public anonymous notification portal. The most effective route is to ask the clinic or doctor who diagnosed you to assist; many local sexual health units or NGOs can facilitate confidential partner notification on your behalf without revealing your identity. It's always better than silence.
