Chemsex (often referred to locally simply as slam or plan slam, even if not injecting) is prevalent in France's major cities, particularly Paris, Lyon, and Marseille. The French harm reduction approach is progressive, heavily driven by community NGOs rather than just the clinical establishment.
🛡️ Harm Reduction at the Clinics
The CeGIDD clinics and infectious disease doctors managing your PrEP are well aware of the chemsex reality.
Honesty is clinical data. Tell your CeGIDD doctor exactly what you are using. If you are using GBL/GHB, they need to factor that into your PrEP guidance. If you are slamming (injecting) 3-MMC or Tina, they need to screen you for Hepatitis C and refer you to the correct harm reduction resources. They are not the police.
Needle Exchange (CAARUD)
If you are slamming, France has an extensive network of CAARUDs (Centres d'Accueil et d'Accompagnement à la Réduction des Risques pour Usagers de Drogues). You can walk into any CAARUD anonymously to exchange used needles for clean ones, get sterile water, filters, and swabs for free.

⚠️ GHB/GBL Dependency
G is physically addictive. If you have been dosing around the clock (24/7) for more than a few weeks, do not stop cold turkey.
Sudden withdrawal from heavy GHB/GBL dependency is a medical emergency that can cause severe delirium, seizures, and death. Do not try to detox alone in an apartment. Present to a hospital Urgences (Emergency Room) or a specialized CSAPA and state clearly that you are dependent on GBL/GHB and require a medical detox.
