Chemsex in Denmark centres largely on Copenhagen, with a smaller scene in Aarhus. Awareness and harm reduction services are less developed than in London or Amsterdam, but they exist — primarily through AIDS-Fondet/Checkpoint and specialist addiction services.

For drug mechanics, overdose protocols, and harm reduction principles, see Chemsex: Safety & Support.

Emergency

Call 112 if someone is unresponsive, has slow or absent breathing, or is in cardiac distress.

Denmark has Good Samaritan protections in practice — you will not face legal consequences for calling emergency services for a drug-related medical emergency. Call first.

Support Services

Checkpoint (AIDS-Fondet)

The first port of call for chemsex-related concerns in Denmark. Experience supporting gay men navigating drug use in sexual contexts — without judgment. Non-judgmental conversation about patterns of use, harm reduction information, signposting to specialist addiction services, and support around the psychological dimensions of chemsex.

Website: aidsfondet.dk/checkpoint The Copenhagen location has the broadest service offering.

AIDS-Fondet Counselling

More sustained support than a brief Checkpoint conversation. The most LGBTQ+-specific counselling option in Denmark.

Contact via aidsfondet.dk.

Sundhedsstyrelsen (Danish Health Authority)

stopguiden.dk has information on specific substances and options for seeking help. Not LGBTQ+-specific, but accessible and practical.

Addiction Services

If drug use has become problematic, Danish treatment is free and accessible.

Kommunale Misbrugstilbud (Municipal Addiction Services)

Each municipality operates free addiction treatment services (misbrugsbehandling). Self-referral is possible — no GP needed. Contact your local municipality's social services department (Borgerservice) for the nearest service. In Copenhagen, check kk.dk for current contact details.

GP Referral

Your Eigen Læge (GP) can refer you to addiction treatment or prescribe substitution treatment where appropriate. If you don't feel comfortable raising chemsex with your GP, Checkpoint can help you navigate the route to treatment.

Drug Checking

Energy Control (Spain, energycontrol.org) offers postal drug testing and is used by Danish harm reduction advocates. This allows you to verify the actual content of substances before use.
