Cy Checkpoint is a peer-led testing and prevention center located in Nicosia, operated by the AIDS Solidarity Movement (ASM). For many gay and bisexual men in Cyprus, this is the safest, most welcoming entry point into the sexual health system.
📍 Location & Access
- City: Nicosia
- Run by: AIDS Solidarity Movement (ASM)
- Booking: Appointments are required. You can book via their website or phone line.
- Website: asmcyprus.org
🩸 What They Test For
Cy Checkpoint focuses on rapid, finger-prick blood testing. They offer testing for:
- HIV
- Syphilis
- Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis C
Cost: Tests are completely free. Anonymity: Yes. You can test completely anonymously. The staff are peers, meaning they understand the community and provide entirely non-judgmental care.
The Missing Piece: Bacterial Swabs
Cy Checkpoint does not perform bacterial swabs. A rapid blood test will not detect Chlamydia or Gonorrhea in your throat, rectum, or urethra.
To get a full screening, you will need to supplement your Cy Checkpoint visit with a trip to a laboratory for 3-site bacterial swabs.
- If you are registered with GeSY, you can get a referral from your Personal Doctor for a subsidized lab test.
- If you are a tourist or prefer to bypass GeSY, you must pay out-of-pocket at a private laboratory. See the GeSY Lab Testing Guide for how to arrange this.
🧭 Beyond Testing
Cy Checkpoint is more than just a testing facility; it serves as a crucial navigation hub:
- PrEP Guidance: They operate the Cyprus PrEP Point and can help you navigate the hospital system to secure free PrEP.
- Positive Results: If your rapid test returns a positive result for HIV or Syphilis, the peer counselors at Cy Checkpoint will not leave you to figure it out alone. They will directly link you to the appropriate specialist care (like the Grigorios Clinic) and offer ongoing psychosocial support.
- Chemsex & Mental Health: They are a trusted resource for connecting guys to affirming mental health therapists and harm reduction services.
If you are new to Cyprus or unsure where to start, calling the team at ASM/Cy Checkpoint is the best first step.
