If you test positive for chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis in Poland, you must seek treatment from a doctor—either via the public system (NFZ) or privately.
The Treatment Pathway
Testing via PKD (Consultation Points)
If you tested at a PKD (Punkty Konsultacyjno-Diagnostyczne) like Lambda Warszawa and received a positive result for syphilis, they will refer you to an infectious disease clinic (poradnia chorób zakaźnych) or a venereology clinic for confirmatory testing and treatment under NFZ (if insured).
Testing Privately (Diagnostyka, ALAB, Synevo)
If you received positive swab or blood results from a private lab, you must book an appointment with a doctor. The fastest and most discreet route is usually a private venereologist (wenerolog) or infectious disease specialist.
Treatment
- Chlamydia/Gonorrhea: Usually treated with antibiotic pills or an injection. You will take the prescription (e-recepta) to an apteka (pharmacy).
- Syphilis: Treated with intramuscular penicillin injections. In the private sector, not all clinics administer injections on-site, so ask beforehand. In the public sector, this is usually handled within the venereology/infectious disease hospital ward or clinic.
Costs
Under NFZ (public insurance), consultations and treatments at specialized clinics are free, though there may be small pharmacy co-pays for certain antibiotics. In the private sector, expect to pay 200–350 PLN for a consultation, plus the cost of medication at the pharmacy.
Partner Notification
Poland does not currently have a centralized, public anonymous notification portal. The most effective route is to ask the clinic or doctor who diagnosed you to assist; many local sexual health units or NGOs can facilitate confidential partner notification on your behalf without revealing your identity. It's always better than silence.
