While Malta's sexual healthcare is highly centralised at Mater Dei Hospital on the main island, residents and visitors on the island of Gozo have dedicated, confidential access to screening and treatment.

🏥 Gozo GU Services

Sexual health services in Gozo are coordinated through two interconnected clinics. Both provide free screening, testing, and treatment for STIs (chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV, etc.), as well as advice on PrEP and PEP.

  1. Victoria Health and Wellbeing Clinic: Located at the Victoria Health Centre, this clinic operates every fortnight on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
  2. Gozo General Hospital GU Clinic: This consultant-led clinic alternates with the Victoria Health Centre clinic.

📅 Booking and Access

  • To book an appointment: Call the central service line at +356 21 231 231. They will guide you to the correct clinic based on the schedule.
  • Referrals: You do not need a doctor's referral to book an appointment.
  • Confidentiality: Services are provided in strict confidence. To protect your anonymity, tests and results are processed using a unique GU code system rather than your name or ID number.

🚨 Emergencies (PEP)

If you have had a potential exposure to HIV, you must start PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) as soon as possible, and no later than 72 hours.

  • During clinic hours: Contact the central line (+356 21 231 231) immediately and state that you need emergency PEP.
  • Out of hours: Go directly to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department at Gozo General Hospital. The emergency department is open 24/7 and can initiate a PEP starter pack.

💊 PrEP Access

If you have been assessed and prescribed PrEP, you can collect your medication directly from the pharmacy at Gozo General Hospital.
