A positive result for chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis in Latvia requires a consultation with an infectious disease specialist (infektologs) or a dermatovenereologist.

The Treatment Pathway

If you tested at Testpunkts, the staff will refer you to LIC (Latvian Infectology Center) for a confirmatory blood test or swab, as community test centers cannot issue prescriptions.

If you tested at LIC or a private clinic (like Gulbja Laboratorija), you can present your positive results directly to a specialist for treatment.

Gonorrhea & Chlamydia

Treatment usually involves antibiotics. Depending on the STI, you will get a prescription for pills or an injection. With state health coverage (NVD), public clinic consultations are heavily subsidized, though you may pay a small patient contribution (pacienta iemaksa) and for the medication at a pharmacy.

Syphilis

Syphilis is treated with intramuscular penicillin injections. This is typically done on-site at the clinic (e.g., LIC) over a series of visits.

Costs

With Latvian health insurance, consultations and treatments at public facilities (like LIC) incur only minor patient fees (often under €5-€10). Private dermatovenereologists will charge out-of-pocket consultation fees (€40-€80) plus the cost of medication.

Partner Notification

Latvia does not currently have a centralized, public anonymous notification portal. The most effective route is to ask the clinic or doctor who diagnosed you to assist; many local sexual health units or NGOs can facilitate confidential partner notification on your behalf without revealing your identity. It's always better than silence.
