If you test positive for a bacterial STI (gonorrhea, chlamydia, or syphilis) in Switzerland, the treatment pathway is fast and highly localized to the Checkpoint network.

The Treatment Pathway

  • Tested at a Checkpoint: If your test at a Checkpoint (Zürich, Geneva, Vaud, Bern) comes back positive, they will contact you. Checkpoints have doctors on staff who can prescribe and administer the required antibiotics (including injections for syphilis or gonorrhea) directly on-site.
  • Cost: Treatment at a Checkpoint is usually charged directly to you at their reduced community rates, or you can opt to have the consultation and medication billed to your health insurance (bearing in mind your franchise/deductible).
  • Tested at a GP: If tested via your GP or a private specialist, they will handle the prescription. This will be billed to your insurance via Tarmed.

Partner Notification

Switzerland does not have a mandatory national tracking portal that contacts your partners for you. You are responsible for informing them. If you tested at a Checkpoint and feel unable to do this yourself due to safety or anxiety, discuss it with the clinical staff — they are highly experienced in sexual health and can often provide tools or facilitate anonymous notification on your behalf.
