🔑 The HPV Gap in Texas

The ACA provides free HPV vaccination up to age 26. Texas Medicaid (CHIP/Children's Medicaid) covers under-26. But for adults over 26 without ACA-compliant insurance, HPV vaccination is an out-of-pocket expense in Texas.

Kind Clinic and Legacy Health offer HPV vaccination on a sliding scale. If you're over 26, uninsured, and in Houston, Austin, or Dallas, these clinics are your best access point. HPV causes anal cancer, throat cancer, and genital warts. It is the only vaccine that actively prevents cancer. It is worth seeking out.

🦠 Mpox in Texas

Following the 2022 outbreak, Texas DSHS and the LGBTQ+ clinics rapidly expanded Mpox vaccination. Supply is now generally stable at Kind Clinic, Legacy Health, and Nelson-Tebedo.

Outside Houston, Austin, and Dallas, Mpox vaccine availability can be inconsistent. If you're in a smaller city, check your county public health department. Some rural health departments can order Jynneos on request.

🏥 Where to Get Vaccinated

  1. Kind Clinic / Legacy / Nelson-Tebedo: Best option for uninsured patients and those wanting LGBTQ+-competent care. Sliding-scale fees.
  2. Texas DSHS clinics: Free vaccines for uninsured residents at state-run public health clinics (iStayHealthy.texas.gov).
  3. CVS / Walgreens: Hepatitis A/B and flu widely available; covered by ACA insurance at no copay, or GoodRx discounts if uninsured.
  4. FQHCs: Sliding-scale vaccination for uninsured patients across the state.

Bring your vaccination records. If you were partially vaccinated (e.g., one Hep B dose years ago), a blood titer test can check your immunity level. Kind Clinic and Legacy can run this—it saves you from repeating unnecessary doses.
