Lithuania has reasonably good vaccine access for gay and bisexual men, though adults pay for HPV and hepatitis A. The key entry point for everything vaccine-related is Santaros Klinikos and the LGL/Demetra network.
Mpox
Mpox vaccination is free for high-risk groups including gay and bisexual men in Lithuania.
Where: Santaros Klinikos (Santariškių g. 14, Vilnius) — the infectious diseases department manages mpox vaccination. LGL (lgl.lt) and Demetra (demetra.lt) track current availability and can direct you to the right entry point.
Two doses (Jynneos/Imvanex) required, 4 weeks apart. Both doses free for eligible groups.
Note: Supply availability has varied since the 2022 outbreak. Contact LGL or Demetra for current status before assuming vaccination is immediately accessible.
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A vaccination is not covered for healthy adults without specific risk indicators through the national insurance system.
- Cost: approximately €50–80 per dose (2 doses for full protection)
- Available at Santaros outpatient clinic or private clinics on a private prescription
- Combined Hep A+B (Twinrix): approximately €60–90 per dose, 3 doses
Hepatitis A transmits sexually. If you're sexually active with multiple partners and unvaccinated, this is worth prioritising.
Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B has been part of Lithuania's mandatory childhood vaccination schedule since 1998. If you went through Lithuanian schooling, you're likely already covered.
If you're not vaccinated or unsure:
- An anti-HBs blood test confirms immunity
- Adult vaccination: ask your GP (šeimos gydytojas) — some coverage may apply under certain risk categories
- Private cost: approximately €25–40 per dose, 3-dose series
- Twinrix (Hep A+B combined): available privately
HPV
HPV vaccination was added to Lithuania's school programme for boys in 2023 (in addition to girls already included). Adults are not covered by the national programme and pay privately.
For adults:
- Gardasil 9 via private prescription (receptas) at a private clinic or pharmacy
- Cost: approximately €130–160 per dose × 3 doses (or 2 doses if starting before 15)
- Available at private clinics, some polyclinics, and pharmacies on prescription
Why it matters: HPV causes anal cancer, which gay and bisexual men are at elevated risk of developing. Vaccination at any age up to 45 provides real protection.
